en "GAGE" ment
If you've read the story about how we got engaged, there is probably 1 question left in your mind.
What happened with the dog?
We rescued a golden retriever from
GRRIN(Golden Retriever Rescue In Nebraska)
soon after the engagement. Actually it was August 8, 2008, exactly 1 year before our wedding date.
It was kind of a process to work with GRRIN, but we're so happy it worked out.
We set up site visits, interviews, & home visits to where the dogs are fostered and we finally found the
perfect fit. Gus was about 2.5 years old and lived with his foster family in Lincoln, NE for a couple weeks
after being given up by his previous parents because they couldn't keep up with his energy. So we decided
change his name to Gage, which took a little time, but now he knows for sure. He was full sized, but acted
like the puppy he still is. Weighing in at 85 pounds, there were a couple concerns with his well-being, but
we quickly trimmed him down to 75 pounds with our active lifestyle.
Gage loves to go on walks, lounge on the couch, eat all-day treats, chase tennis balls, bite water from the hose,
race the neighbor chiuaua's the length of the fence, car rides, stuffed squeaky toys, rabbits, naps, snoring, getting brushed,
taking showers and loves to play with anything. So he pretty much loves everything. He's so much fun to watch at the
dog park, he plays with the little dogs, picks on the big ones, and doesn't take crap from anyone. Just kidding on that
not taking crap, he'll rollover on his back if the smallest dog looks at him funny. But he takes care of himself, too.
That's the best thing about Golden's they are so loving and good with dogs and kids. They are also very smart, which
makes him the perfect dog for us. He's gotten really good about not pulling the leash when walking. Now we're working
on not needing the leash as much, it'll be a while for that one.
